Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a time tested, safe, low risk modality which involves puncturing the skin at specific anatomical sites, meridian points, to relieve symptoms associated with disease or imbalance.  We employ the Clean Needle Technique.  Very thin, hair-like, single use disposable sterilized needles are inserted superficially into the skin creating a heavy sensation in the body.   Acupuncture stimulates the body to release blockages thus reestablishing equilibrium and promoting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is thought that the acupuncture points, when stimulated, release endogenous analgesic mechanisms in the body. Generally, needles areleft in from 20-30 minutes to achieve desired outcomes of therapy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) promotes the use of acupuncture and recognizes that acupuncture is suitable for treating over 100 commonly encountered clinical disorders that can be classified into the following categories:

 

1). Disorders of the Muscles, Joints and Nervous System such as arthritis, migraine headaches, insomnia, dizziness and low back, neck and shoulder pain.
2). Gynecological Disorders such as irregular, heavy, or painful menstruation, infertility in women and men, pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause syndrome.
3). Gastrointestinal Disorder such as food allergies, peptic ulcer, constipation, chronic diarrhea, indigestion, gastrointestinal weakness, anorexia and gastritis.
4). Circulatory Disorders such as hypertension, cholestrol disorder and anemia.
5). Urogenital Disorders such as involuntary loss of urine, urinary tract infections, and sexual dysfunction.
6). Respiratory Disorders such as sinusitis, asthma, allergies and bronchitis.
7). Emotional and Psychological Disorders such as depression and anxiety.  Alcohol, nicotine and drug addictions have been successfully treated.
